Kids with motor difficulties learn coordination and build essential core strength at a level that suits their individual needs and capabilities.

Through martial arts kids get to understand their bodies; how they move, how they react to challenges along with their mental and physical capabilities in a safe, welcoming and encouraging environment.

When a child has special needs, they can be challenged with certain things that other kids might find easy. At Synergy, they learn in a structured environment that emphasizes self-respect.

All children need exercise but sometimes it can be hard for kids with special needs to keep up on the playing field.

Martial arts instruction focuses on competing with yourself and your own goals within an inclusive environment – something that allows kids with special needs to excel on their own terms.

WE BUILD PHYSICAL COORDINATION AND CONTROL

Through our martial arts program kids find out quickly that each movement must be deliberate. Students learn to control their movements, developing balance, coordination and control to the best of their ability.

As they develop their coordination skills and learn about their bodies abilities they’ll be less likely to be unintentionally destructive

DEVELOPMENTAL GROWTH

Group activities including partner work provide an excellent opportunity for young children to develop their social skills through structured interaction, using language to express their thoughts and needs with peers.

COOPERATION

Working with their peers towards a common goal, children will further develop their cooperation skills, conversation skills, and discover how to share, be fair and help each other.

INTERACTION & TOGETHERNESS

Friendships are encouraged between children who do not normally play together, bringing a sense of wider community and family, exposing your child to the concept of working with different types of people with different points of view.

faq’S

My children can become physical when angry - will taking part in martial arts teach my kids that it’s okay to hit people?

No – in fact the opposite. In our classes, we emphasize courtesy and self-control. Our martial arts focus on how to avoid confrontation rather than embracing it. Kids learn that kicking and punching are appropriate in a structured and organised class and we also make sure that they know that physical violence is not the right choice for conflict resolution.

Are family martial arts classes appropriate for those with disabilities?

Yes. Our instructors can modify their instruction for students of every ability level. If you have any specific concerns, just let us know and we’ll be happy to help out.

Isn’t 2 years old too young to start martial arts?

No. Children learn incredibly quickly at this age. Our program is specific to that age so they are learning skills including movement, balance, coordination, listening, verbalisation etc. Which are key aspects for more complex skills later on.

My partner and I are separated, does it matter which one of us brings our little one?

No. We often find that parents who are separated get a real benefit out of the classes as it’s excellent ‘quality time’. Just be involved, bring a positive attitude and you’ll fit right in .

My child gives up easily when frustrated. I want them to learn perseverance. Can your classes help?

Yes. Perseverance is one of our key tenets that forms the bedrock of our martial core. It’s common for students to require more than one attempt to become proficient in a new skill and to progress to the next level. Giving it your best shot is the most important thing – perseverance builds courage, which in turn builds character.

Will martial arts help my child learn to interact with others and share?

Yes. We teach kids to learn in a collaborative environment with an emphasis on sharing, cooperation, and teamwork.

My child has a hard time remaining focused and misses important instructions. Can taking martial arts classes help them do a better job of focusing?

Yes. Part of our training teaches kids to be mindful and to remain focused. They must focus to succeed in class. Once they learn to do this it will benefit them in other aspects of their life.
